Pattern B/1987

The large dessert plate is 245mm in diameter. Bone china.

Pattern B/1987 large dessert plate front

Pattern B/1987 large dessert plate pattern number

The large size of this plate is unusual as dessert plates in this shape are generally c.230mm, but the pattern number leads me to believe it is intended as a large dessert plate rather than a small dinner plate.

Pattern H/623

The pattern book entry for H/833 states:
'Oxford E.ware Claret Print Maz[arin]e Blue Coloured & Gilt'.1
The print is named as 'Mauritius' elsewhere in the pattern book.

The 8 inch muffin is 197mm in diameter. Earthenware.

The impressed registration diamond is for 23 January 1875, parcel 9. There are four patent numbers attached to this registration. Dr Godden states these are for: '2 Designs for dinner ware forms, and two for printed patterns'.2
The impressed mark reads "T.C. BROWN-WESTHEAD, / MOORE & CO."
The impressed "1", printed "C", and painted "d" may be tally marks for the blank maker, transfer applier, and decorator respectively.

Pattern H/833

The pattern book entry for H/833 states:
'Oxford & Regina (Pounced) Dark & Light Maz Blue & col'd as shewn. NP/4633'1
'Regina' is probably the shape of the covered pieces. NP/ numbers are new pattern numbers prior to allocation of normal pattern number.

The dinner plate is 260mm in diameter. Earthenware.

The pattern book entry for H/1758 states:
'E Ware Oxford & Regina Old Brown Print Col[oure]d in Pink and Dark & Pale Emerys Brown as NP/5721 En[amelle]d Blue Band Gilt Handles'.1
'Regina' is probably the shape of the covered pieces. Emery[']s may refer to the manufacturer of the colours. I have been unable to discover the name of the print.

The dessert plate is 237mm in diameter. Earthenware.

Pattern L/8809

The pattern book entry for L/8809 states:
'Oxford Sh[ape] Ch[ina] Burnished Acid Borders & Finish 20r[oun]d'.1
The uneven spacing of the border elements makes me wonder if there is a transfer element in the process of acid etching and gilding.

The 8 inch muffin is 201mm in diameter. Bone china.

W. H. Plummer & Co. were New York retailers in the early part of the twentieth century. Wares marked with their name are also known from Wedgwood and Minton. Cauldon Ltd. took over the factory at the start of 1905.
