Broad Street Works
'Pekin' shape

The 'Pekin' shape was a development under Ridgway, Morley, Wear, & Co. of the original 'Hicks No. 2' shape.

The shape was used particularly for the patent "Hot Water Plate" system developed jointly by Ridgway, Morley, Wear, & Co. and the metalworkers James Dixon & Sons, who made some of the Britannia metal lids for William Ridgway's jugs. The system was a form of food warming plate, and consisted of a ceramic plate with a very heavy base, that sat on a Britannia metal tank filled with hot water. The tank was a flat cylinder with a lip that stopped the plate slipping off it.
